A DREAM OF HOME
COMES TRUE FOR OPERA IN CONCERT at THE EDWARD JACKMAN
CENTRE Toronto, 1 February 2004…Gordon
Baird, Opera in Concert Board Chairman and OIC General Director Guillermo
Silva-Marin announce that the company has realized its long-term ‘dream
of home’. After years of rehearsing in various rented spaces at some
distance from the office, Opera in Concert has moved to 947 Queen Street East
at Carlaw. “With more that 3,000 square feet at our disposal and a
long-term lease, we are thrilled to have all our operations under one
roof”, enthused Silva-Marin. “Just imagine, sufficient rehearsal
space and our offices all at the same address. What a way to start the New
Year!”
The Edward Jackman
Centre (before) The location will be shared by Toronto
Operetta Theatre and the fundraising for this project has come from both
organizations. The Reverend Edward Jackman through the Jackman Foundation has
been for many years a major supporter of both Opera in Concert and Toronto
Operetta Theatre. The new offices and rehearsal studio will be called the
Edward Jackman Centre in his honour. Opera in Concert and Toronto Operetta
Theatre are not-for-profit arts organizations with a combined history of over
45 years. With the move to 947 Queen Street East, both companies will have an
operational stability that neither could achieve separately. “I believe
this is the way to go”, commented OIC Chairman, Gordon Baird.
“Our two companies have completely separate schedules and now both
groups can be assured of proper office and rehearsal space at one convenient
location.”
The Edward Jackman
Centre (opening) The Grand Opening of the Edward Jackman
Center took place at 947 Queen Street East on February 28, 2005 from 4:00 to
6:00pm. |
