Dear OIC Patron,

The Board of Directors and I have the great pleasure to introduce to you our 2009-2010 Season with three giants of the operatic stage, incomparable world masters of the vocal arts, Rossini, Handel and Bellini. Rossini’s LA DONNA DEL LAGO makes a belated Canadian Premiere, GIULIO CESARE returns to Toronto, alas far too seldom in its visits while Bellini’s I PURITANI was last heard in Ontario through OIC’s daring programming in 1990.

OIC enters its 36th year of daring operatic fare after a season that saw two Canadian premieres in ROBERTO DEVEREUX and LA VESTALE, The 200th Anniversary of Haydn with his IL MONDO DELLA LUNA and our first World Premiere, KAMOURASKA by Canadian composer Charles Wilson.

None of this is possible without your commitment to this unique and enterprising opera company. Your financial support makes it possible for many of our young singers to excel in leading roles, expand on their career development, reach extraordinary artistic heights. Looking back to 35 years of operas seldom heard in Canada, the number of operas you have sponsored is staggering, over 150, in their scope, their musical and dramatic breadth, their diversity and beauty.

This current year has been a challenging one for many of us and in particular, for arts organizations such as Opera in Concert. OIC has made some adjustments to its Long Term Planning and with proper and judicious management, we are hopeful of an improved future. We need your help more than ever before. Please consider an increase in your donation for the 2009-2010 Season. We hope that you will be able to convince a friend to join you in support of the company.

Yours cordially,

Guillermo Silva-Marin,

General Director
