STUART HAMILTON

 

 

Stuart Hamilton was the founder, and from 1974 to 1994 the artistic director of the celebrated series Opera in Concert, based in Toronto.

 

In 1984 he was made a member of the Order of Canada, in 1989 he won the Toronto Arts Award, in 1992 the Governor General's Commemorative Medal, and in 2000, he was awarded the first "Ruby" given by Opera Canada Magazine.

 

Since 1982 he has been the Quiz Master on CBC' s SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT THE OPERA, as well as appearing regularly on the Metropolitan Opera Quiz from New York.

 

Well known as a vocal coach and accompanist, his master classes across the country have been described as "dazzling", "unforgettable", "magical", and "an inspiration".

 

On October 11, 2000, he was the recipient of the first Music Educator Award from Opera Canada.
